PERU: EXEMPTION FROM REQUIREMENT OF VISA FOR INDIAN CITIZENS

From March 27 of the current year will be an exemption from the requirement of temporary visa in the migratory qualities of tourist and business to nationals from the Republic of India, holding a valid Visa or residency in USA, the UK, Australia or any Schengen State.

On Monday, March 6, 2017 the Supreme Decree 006-2017- RE was published in the official Peruvian gazette “El Peruano” which allows some Indian citizens to travel visa free to Peru for touristic, recreational as well as business related purposes.

The exemption will only apply to Indian nationals that hold a permanent residency or visa with a validity of at least six months in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia or any Schengen State.

These Indian citizens only can enter Peru visa free for a stay up to 180 days, either for one continuous visit or for several shorter visits together not exceeding the half year, within a 12 months period.

With this step Peru continues to promote the foreign tourism, trade and investment as well as further tightening the ties with India.

TOURISTS STAYING IN BARILOCHE MUST PAY A FEE

The city began to perceive the funds raised from the new tax, which is retained to visitors staying in hotels, hostels, campsites, cabins and residences rented enabled.

The resources will be directed to a fund to improve the tourism infrastructure. By Municipal Resolution, all accommodations in San Carlos de Bariloche must charge to guests a fee called “ECO tax “.

 The provision states that:

  • All accommodations of San Carlos de Bariloche must charge the ECO tax for a maximum of 3 (three) nights per person.
  • The payment of the ECO tax has to be made directly in the accommodation at the moment of the check out.
  • The tariff schedule will be as follows (The values are per night per person in Pesos Argentinos):
    Accommodation Category:
    • Bed & Breakfast, Lodging: ARS 10
    • 1 Star Accommodation: ARS 10
    • 2 star accommodation: ARS 20
    • 3 star accommodation: ARS 30
    • 4 star accommodation: ARS 45
    • 5 star accommodation: ARS 60
  • Will be exempted from paying the ECO tax:
    • Children under the age of 14 years that prove identity and date of birth with ID/ Passport or any other valid document.
    • Passengers with disabilities: will require original and copy of the certificate of disability in conjunction with the copy and original of the ID.

These values apply until December 31, 2017 and may be altered by the City Authorities.

NEW AGREEMENT IN BRAZIL EXEMPTS CITIZENS OF UNITED ARAB EMIRATES FROM THE VISA REQUIREMENT

The Visa waiver agreement was signed in March 2017 and is yet to be ratified.

The Minister of Foreigner Affairs in Brazil signed an agreement to exempt United Arab Emirates citizens from the Visa requirement to visit Brazil.

The new measure will apply for tourists and passengers in transit, and will allow them to stay in Brazil up to 90 days.

However, this Decree is expected to be ratified within a short term.
