Rates reductions, as Argentina exempts 21% VAT on hotel stays for foreigners.

As of January 2nd 2017, Argentinean government confirmed that non-residents will enjoy a deduction of VAT from hotel rates. Until now, this exemption was valid just in Ushuaia. Although the entire tourism industry was aware of this new regulation which was expected for November 2016, the confirmation is great news as Argentina is finally applying a similar policy of neighbor countries (except of Brazil).

According to the law, the requirements to apply the exemption are:

  • A scanned copy of valid passports of all passengers, showing country of residence.
  • Pre-payment of accommodation services by international wire transfers. Cash payments are not allowed.

  • Benefits do not apply for other services provided by hotels (meeting venues, meals, transfers, excursions).
  • Please note that in case of no-show or cancellations with penalty, hotels will charge VAT (same as Uruguay, Chile and Peru) and Vivaterra will be obligated to collect this money from customers.
